Epikos church of Milwaukee has recently released a free app! 
The app consists of weekly sermon podcasts, updated events, daily scripture readings, and a prayer wall. It's a great way to stay connected and deepen your relationship with God. 

There is also a simple gospel presentation to share with others or to simply remind yourself of the Good News. Then log in to connect with your Facebook and Twitter network.

I have been using this app since its release and absolutely love it! The podcasts work great and the content is always up to date. I highly recommend this app! You won't be disappointed.

QR codes are everywhere, but you may not have seen them on wine bottles. Many wine producers are now embracing the QR code marketing trend to allow consumers to get more information about the wine.

Traditionally, wine bottles do not contain much information – they tend to not include nutritional information or specific details about the production of the wine and instead, they tend to just include tasting notes and a general description of where the wine was produced. With the inclusion of QR Codes, consumers can get access to much more information about the wines than ever before and even buy more wine! 

QR codes are the next big thing! It is great to see how different companies are putting them to use. Something so simple can provide huge benefits!

This weekend I visited Dave and Buster's with a group of friends. There, I noticed how they were using QR codes to engage their customers while visiting. 

I found a QR codes to scan throughout the menu. One QR code's call to action was "Scan here to tell us what our next great cocktail should be!" This was a great way to engage customers and find out what they really want. 

I even found them on acrade games! After I was done playing, a screen with a QR code popped up and asked "Share your High Score!" I thought is was awesome! The way they are incorporating mobile for their customers is great! It really allows their customers to interact and share what they are doing at Dave and Buster's. This allows for current customers to become advocates of the brand for FREE!  

I think Dave and Buster's has done a great job of using QR codes to better business. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
 
Recently, I came across the new app, Postagram, that allows you to send real postcards from your mobile device. Postagram is bringing back the personal touch that "snail mail" provided. 
The App sends a real postcard with a pop-out photo of your choice. You can write a 140 character message and send it to anywhere around the world. 

I recently downloaded the app and loved it! The FREE Download also came with 5 FREE postcards (normally 99 cents each)! I thought this was a great way to use digital photos for other than just Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. 

The process was as easy as loading a picture to Instagram or Facebook. 1) type in the address 2) pick a photo 3) write a message 4) send it on its way. 

I recently sent one to a friend in California. She absolutely loved it and thought it was great that she was able to just pop-out the picture and have it as a keepsake. 

Postagram found a unique way to use all the digital photos that we take on a regular basis. It's a great way to provide added value for customers. They not only get to send a great postcard to someone they love, but they are also giving the little gift of an actual picture that the receiver can keep.

I found this great article from SquareCode.biz about how a bakery placed QR codes directly on its cookies. Thought this was very cool! 

The online bakery, 1-800 Bakery.com, found a new and interesting way to use QR codes. The bakery launched a line of edible codes customers could both scan and eat. The line consisted of a variety of cookies and cakes with the QR codes printed on them. 1-800 Bakery.com was successful in its efforts, as they received a 40% scan rate the day they launched. 

I thought this was the perfect way for 1-800 Bakery.com to use QR codes for its company. It differentiated themselves from all the other QR code campaigns out there. When people go to eat a cookie, they are not expecting an added interactive experience. 

I think that this marketing campaign could have been even better if they would have had more call to actions than just "SCAN... to view our website." As suggested in the article, 1-800 Bakery.com should have had more clear call to actions.

  • Scan to see our new cookie bouquet!
  • Scan for a $5 coupon for next visit

These would have given the customer a reason to scan and the opportunities to increase consumer conversion and cross-sell would have multiplied. Otherwise, 1-800 Bakery.com did a great job of using QR codes to their advantage. I think other companies will be looking to use QR codes in similar ways to create customer engagement like 1-800 Bakery.com did.

Instagram is the big winner! It beat out Twitter for the amount of mobile users this August. Instagram, a photo sharing application, attracted 7.3 million users per day on mobile phones. While, Twitter had 6.9 million active users. This was the first time that Instagram beat out twitter for the top spot. 

Personally, I wasn't surprised when I heard this. Since Instagram came out 2 years ago... I have definitely preferred Instagram over twitter. I love that users have the ability to share thoughts along with pictures. Just like the old saying, "a picture says a thousand words." It is great to SEE what people are talking about. 

What I like most about Instagram is that retailers are now starting to get into the action. I follow a number of my favorite stores and find out about sales, new products, and more by viewing their pictures. When there is a new product that I like, I can immediately click on the link and find out more information. It's a great way for retailers to showcase their merchandise and promotions to their customers. I am more likely to buy something from the stores that I follow on Instagram compared to others.

The September issue of Milwaukee Magazine is entirely interactive with the use of the new mobile app, Actable. 

August 28, 2012, Quad Graphics of Sussex, Wis introduced the new app. Actable is an interactive print solution that allows publishers to create engaging multichannel editorial and advertising experiences. Actable allows for readers to instantly interact with the printed page and launch related content directly from images, eliminating the need for QR codes. 

I thought this was pretty cool! It's a great way to make the original print magazine more exciting/appealing to readers. Advertisements have now become more interactive and appealing to readers. For example, if there is a product that I liked in the magazine... I could simply use the Actable app to go right to the website and buy that item. Or if there is a movie advertisement and it looks interesting... I can use the Actable app to see the movie trailer right there. No waiting to see it on TV.

This is a great way to keep the traditional print magazines, but incorporate the use of technology to create a better user experience for the reader. 

Personally, I still love to look at print magazines... but with the ability to watch videos, look up items, or make reservations appeals to me. I have not yet used this app, but I am looking forward to trying it.
